Great Fighter rod!!!
September 5, 2021
I'm own 1002XH for 3 years now using mostly on jetties, fishing for Kings, JT's Bullreds, Sharks...So far all good, have no problem with the rod or guides. But a couple times just cut the main line because of large shark attack and swallow my King.

8’8” Great Light Surf Rod
January 6, 2021
The 8’8” is perfect for playing with schoolie stripers, blues and albies. It does best with 3/4 to 1.5oz lures, doesn’t really load well with 1/2oz but it will work well enough for that in a pinch. The action is a little soft but overall it works really well and that seems to help with throwing lighter plugs like small mag darters without having them wobble as much on the cast.
Pros
  • Light, casts great
Cons
  • A little soft/whippy (on the 8?8? model) but not bad

Tsunamai Airwave Elite 1102M

I have several many more expensive rods ........... But, I always gravitate to this one .......

I throw a lot of swimbaits at the Cape Cod Canal, which cast terribly ..... This rod gets the most out of them ......

Also casting metals into the wind on the beach, this rod outperforms my Century for distance ...... lighter lure scale, a little looser ......

I also have a 11'4" I use on the Canal for jigging heavy 5/6oz, in heavy current .... Very stiff to get the jig off the bottom and can turn big fish in heavy current .....

For me, the very best value in surf rods ....... sub $200.00 .......

strong and light weight
November 25, 2020
My first surf rod. Two piece makes transport easy and storage possible in a small NYC apartment. Have landed small blues to larger stripers and rod is very reactive and fun. Live lining on it with bunker had some good results as well. Quick rinse after surf action and it's performing well used it about 30 times.
Pros
  • two piece for easy transport and storage, light weight for casting all day, reactive to small and large fish.
Cons
  • none yet

Stiff surf rod, affordable
October 27, 2020
I'm 6' 2", 220lbs and was looking for a shorter rod but could easily handle 2-4oz. This is an extra stiff rod and fit my needs exactly. I can use it to lob some bait but also good for throwing metals or heavy lures in windy rough surf conditions.
Pros
  • affordable, lightweight
Cons
  • out of stock now

9'6" Airwave Elite - Very Smooth and Comfortable
October 12, 2020
I needed a new rod in a hurry and Tackle Direct was able to get it to me within a few days of ordering and in time for a planned weekend trip. Much thanks to them for the quick processing and shipping.
After fishing with the rod over the weekend I really enjoyed the feel of it. It casts very smooth, has nice action for a wide range of lures. I threw bucktails, darters, poppers, bottle plugs, etc and it felt nice and responsive for all. The light weight and smooth feel of the rod was very comfortable when casting for hours.
The only time I felt a little under powered was when the wind really kicked up from the incoming storm and I had a 30 knot wind running down the beach. Other than that I really enjoyed it.
Pros
  • Lightweight, responsive and smooth action.
Cons
  • Under powered in heavy conditions.
  • Butt end of the rod could be a little thicker, may have to build that up with another layer of tape.

I have been using these rods for many years and have yet to find a better value for my hard earned dollar. TDirect has the best selection anywhere and spot on delivery.
Pros
  • Overall build quality
Cons
  • Some rod butts are just a little too long. However, I just cut them to the perfect length and re-butt.

Extremely Lite
May 12, 2020
Just getting into surf fishing. Love the weight and quality of the rod. Matched it with the Ultegra CI4 5500. Seems to be a good combo for a beginner. Casts very well even though I have some technique to develop.
Pros
  • lite weight
Cons
  • none so far

What size tsunami reel would pair best with the 8'8" airwave elite
1 Answer
The Tsunami Shield series of Salt waterproof spinning reels feature up to 13 internal seals in key, strategic locations to shield critical components from harmful saltwater intrusion. The internal seals, super smooth and strong CF3 carbon fiber drag system and 5 sealed stainless steel bearings are wrapped in a hybrid machined aluminum body combining protection, precision and toughness. The heavy-duty rotor brake controlled bail system and precision machined aluminum, braid-ready spool assure the best control of super braids cast after long cast.

The 5000 and 6000 Shield reels contain 13 various internal seals at all of the locations where salt water could reasonably be expected to penetrate the reel for even greater protection in these larger reels. Hybrid all metal construction includes precision machined aircraft aluminum and tempered aluminum precision stampings and heavy duty protective anodizing to keep these reels operating up to factory specifications year after year. The combination of these top-notch designs and precisely mated components are what make the Tsunami Shield spinning reels an all new contender for your favorite reel for years to come!

Tsunami TSSHD5000 Shield Spinning Reel Features:

  • 10-13 internal seals for water resistant protection
  • Aluminum body
  • Machined aluminum spool, rotor, side plate cover, and handle arm
  • 5 sealed stainless steel bearing system
  • Braid ready spool
  • Carbon fiber drag system

How would the 8â€â"¢ 8†pair up with a Penn Battle III 4500?
1 Answer
So we can answer your question more accurately, which reel are you looking to pair with the 8' 8 Airwave Elite Surf rod? Penn does not make a Battle III but Penn does make the Battle II. Was it the Slammer you were referring to?
