About the Species: TUNA

Tuna are prized game fish, known for their speed, strength, and value as table fare. From Yellowfin to Bluefin, these powerful predators are a popular target for anglers around the world. Tuna are known for their unpredictable fight, which can last for hours, testing your gear and stamina. They travel in schools and can be found in various offshore environments, often feeding on baitfish near the surface. Tuna fishing is a thrilling experience, but it requires the right approach and equipment to be successful.

The Technique: CHUNKING

Tuna chunking is a time-tested method for attracting these powerful fish by using cut bait, or "chunks," of fresh fish like sardines, butterfish, or squid. This technique typically involves anchoring or drifting and tossing bait into the water to create a slick that draws tuna to your boat. Once the tuna are in the area, presenting chunk bait on the right setup is the key to getting them on the hook. Tuna chunking is highly effective, but success depends on having the proper gear for everything from rigging to fighting these fast and hard-pulling fish.
