Great rod, my one and only rod for the kayak so far. Handles fish well, loads and cast well and very sensative. Love the rod and exactly what I expected from a Loomis rod. Only down side, reel seat has had play from day 1 of unwrapping.

My first G Loomis rod
April 22, 2020
Bought the casting version to throw topwater for specks. Was delivered today and I used it for about an hour so far. I was hoping I wouldn't like it any more than the rods Ive been using for years, but It's a sweet casting rod, and the feel and sensitivity is definitely better than my usual rods that run about $80 less.
Like the other reviewer, I heard a few clicks the first couple of times the rod flexed, but Ive heard that before with new rods and I'm hoping it's just the guides settling in

Very Fragile for their Cost
March 15, 2020
I’ve had two of these rods in 7’6” and 8’ both break the tips off within 1 week of owning them.
  • Light
  • Good balance
  • Grip section Is ergonomic
  • Great sensitivity
  • Pricey and they seem to be very fragile. I would not recommend this rod if you fish from a kayak, you might be fine on a SUP.

Great all around rod
April 24, 2018
Excellent rod for inshore saltwater fishing. I use it heavily, the rod is very durable and a simple rinse with freshwater after use is all that is needed to keep it looking new. Great for feeling the small bites on smaller species like snapper, but enough backbone to bring in the larger reds, snook, etc. 7'0, medium action is a great all around choice.
  • Looks great
  • Lightweight
  • Multispecies

G-Loomis E6X-843S-MGM
January 19, 2018
Meh. Out of the box, the rod feels extremely light weight and looks great...However, there is a clicking noise coming from the rod that I cannot locate. I'm not sure if there is a guide that is loose or if this is flexing/cracking in the blank somewhere. If I was still within the 30 day period for G Loomis' "Guaranteed Love" , I probably would have returned it, but at this point, oh well. I'll keep it on the boat for the rare occasion I want to through something live.

It will cast a live bait setup with popping or barrel cork a country mile without stressing the bait much. The softness in that portion of flex is great for live bait or heavier hard lures, but that's about it. It lacks the tip sensitivity for use with plastics but I have other setups for that.

AWESOME inshore saltwater rod
November 18, 2015
I was looking for a rod to tackle all aspects of the fall run in the new england this year - false albacore, bonita, stripers, and gator blues - this rod handled them all with ease. it has the tip to throw smaller jigs and plastics to finicky albies and the backbone to tame gators. quickly became the favorite rod in my arsenal, paired with a stradic 4k. lightweight, solid fishing weapon.
  • light, fast tip, strong backbone, good px,
  • would like to see a little more cork on the grip above the reel seat

What size saragosa do you think would best match the 8ft mag heavy rod for topwater fishing?
1 Answer
I would recommend the Shimano SRG10000SWAPG Saragosa SW A Spinning Reel or the 8000 either one will work. The 8000 may work best to reduce some fatigue with constantly casting and working top water lures since its a little lighter.

Im looking at the 844s model. Would that model be a good all around rod from fluke, porgy, stripers and gator blue fishing from a kayak? If not, what would be a good all around rod for that type of fishing, also doesnt have to be only loomis? Thanks
1 Answer
The G-Loomis E6X844S-F will be a good rod for this. Its the perfect size to be manageable in a kayak and will be a good multi-species rod. If you need something that can handle a little bit heavier of a line weight though I would also recommend the Shimano Teramar XX Northeast Spinning Rods either TXNS66MH or TXNS70M this rod is designed with popular Northeastern species in mind.

Which 8 ft rod would go best with my Van Staal vsx 150 ?  I mostly fish inshore on the flats but I want to be able to surf fish and have enough back bone for small cobia and stripers

1 Answer
The 7'6" Medium https://www.tackledirect.com/g-loomis-e6x903s-xf-inshore-saltwater-spinning-rod.html

The 7'6" Heavy https://www.tackledirect.com/g-loomis-e6x904s-f-inshore-saltwater-spinning-rod.html

Depending on how much backbone you want, these rods will pair great with your Van Staal 150 to give you the best casting capabilities and strength for your cobia and striper. If you also plan to use it on the flats, I would go with the Medium.

Do you think the 8' h will pair well with the stradic 5000
1 Answer
The G-Loomis E6X-964S-MF Inshore Saltwater Spinning Rod is a beast of a rod that can handle all types of inshore fishing. When pairing that rod with a Stradic 5000 your getting the best of both worlds. A lighter reel with great max drag for it's size and a great rod to handle everything targeting inshore.

What does the term mag moderate mean in the 845s rod
1 Answer
The difference is the taper of the rod is different than the other rods at moderate. The Mag rods are typically much more powerful in the butt section of the rod, tapering rather quickly to a fast or extra fast tip. In general they are more powerful than their counterparts, while still retaining the tip action needed to present baits and work them effectively.
