Offering some of Shimano’s flagship technologies and uncompromising quality in a package that even the budget-minded angler can enjoy, the Shimano Nasci is an exciting new reel that both freshwater and saltwater anglers can make use of. Featuring Shimano’s HGN Gearing, the Shimano Nasci offers long-term gear durability not normally associated with spinning reels in it’s class. X-Ship technology is also employed in the Nasci. X-Ship makes use of a dual bearing-supported pinion gear that keeps precise alignment with the drive gear leading to a more connected feel under heavy loads, less friction between the spool shaft and gear, and years of dependable operation and performance.

Adding to the list of features is one rarely seen in a reel of this class. CoreProtect protects three critical areas of the Shimano Nasci - the roller clutch, the body, and the line roller from water intrusion. Couple this with the use of Hagane Gear which uses state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to produce an incredible durable gear system and you have a spinning reel that can take whatever you throw at it and continue to perform, all without breaking the bank.

Shimano Technology Found In Nasci Reels :
  • CoreProtect - The concept of CoreProtect is simple – to provide exceptional water resistance without creating any additional rotational resistance on the retrieve. The reel is treated at key areas such as the roller clutch, body, and line roller to resist water intrusion.
  • G-Free Body - G-Free Body technology enables the reel’s center of gravity to be moved closer to the center of the reel seat, and therefore the anglers hand position. This shift in weight and balance helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.
  • Hagane Gear - Boasting amazing strength and durability, Hagane Gear is a process in which the gearing is calculated in minute detail and cold forged instead of being cut. This application of state-of-the-art technologies gives the angler reel smoothness from the first use through years of enjoyment.
  • Super Stopper - Super Stopper anti-reverse uses a one-way stainless steel roller bearing to eliminate back-play in the reel and provide the angler with instant power when setting the hook.
  • X-Ship - By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear remains in precise alignment with the drive gear and stays in the same position under even the heaviest of loads. This eliminates friction between the spool shaft and gear which translates to better casting performance and increased gear durability.

Great reel for inshore fishing. If fishing for large inshore fish I would suggest upgrading to a stradic.

If you're considering the 4k just get the 5k
January 13, 2020
These are really smooth reeling and very light reels. They feel like my stradics for a lot less money. FYI, if you're considering a 4k NASCI just get the 5k. They weigh the same, have the same ratio but the 5k has a slightly bigger spool and costs the same as the 4k. I am not sure why they even have a 4k.
Proslight and very smooth
Consmight flex under load

5 stars for price

This and the stradic have ruined me for spinning reels. The 4k weighs a little less than a Battle II 2500. It's very smooth and similar feeling to my stradics. We'll see how they hold up but for the price they are an excellent value.
Proslight and buttery smooth
Consmight flex under load

A bit dissapointing
December 31, 2018
I have been fishing this reel for about 6 months now. It's decent but at the price point i feel Diawa offers far superior products like the BG and the Fuego LT. It could dstand to be allot smoother and lighter.
ProsPrice i guess
ConsThere are far superior products in the same price range.

OK Budget Reel But Leaves a Lot to Be Desired
October 19, 2018
I have owned this reel in the 5000 sized since it was released. I have owned many other Shimano reels for the past 15 years, Daiwa, Abu, Penn and others. I usually buy the mid to flagship range reels but wanted to give this reel a shot to see what the hype was all about. I have to say that this reel is quite sloppy in the tolerences in the handle and knob. From day 1 it has always has had a geary lump on every 1/3 turn of the handle like an off kilter wheel. When reeling in bigger fish, the handle seems to have a lot of flex, so much so that i've felt I might break it. I've also tested the drag at ~18lb under controlled conditions and there is an uncomfortable amount of flex in the rotor. I love Shimano products but if you plan on using this reel for larger game (~10lb drag or higher), go with a more solidly built reel.
ProsBudget friendly
ConsA lot of flex in the handle and rotor Possible quality control Wouldn't use it for big fish or even close to it's stated drag numbers

Will the 3000 be good for light tackle seabass jigging with diamond jigs and blackfish jigging?
1 Answer
The Nasci's are great little reels with a good amount of drag pressure in a small reel, it would be perfect for how you want to use it.

Casual Fisherman here. I fish inshore and offshore for anything from trout to Redfish. I am buying this reel, but am unsure of what the best line to put on it is. I am guessing something braided, but I'm not sure.
1 Answer
Standard power pro or the power pro superslick.

What are the bail wire diameter sizes of the SYMETRY 3000 and 4000? What are the sizes of the Nasci wire bail diameter-for the 3000 and 4000?
1 Answer
The bail diameter on the 3000 is 5/64 (0.078) of an inch. The diameter on the 4000 is 11/128 (0.085) of an inch. Unfortunately, we no longer carry the Symetre to give measurements.
