My new favorite!!
I paired the 7” MH with the shimano tranx 300A which balanced out nicely! First day using it I hooked into 2 good sized halibut & man this rod was fun to use, tons of bend & strong backbone to handle big fish with confidence! I’m buying another combo just like it - it’s that good!!

St Croix Avid 7"6 , ML VIS76MLF
Purchased 3 of these Avid, 7'6" ML, late last year paired with Shimano CI4 2500 reels. Use them for Bass on the lakes and Reds and Specs down in Florida on the Flats. Handle all bass and Spec Trout with ease and Reds up to 10-15 lbs. Rod is extremely light and Strong.
ProsHigh Quality, Light, Strong

Quality workmanship. Beautiful Rod.
Planning on using this rod to chase Bull Reds. Has plenty of backbone, and if anything like my other 10 St Croix rods ( yeah, I know, I have a problem) I won't be disappointed.

Greatest rods on earth
I use this rods in the back bays and mud flats for prowling stripers. Plenty of back bone to land 25 pound class fish, and touch to feel the sometimes light bite. This rod is always with me in the spring.
ProsStrong, lightweight, St. Croix warranty.
ConsCost, but you get what you pay for.

St. Croix Avid Inshore Spinning VIS70MF - Perfect Inshore Rod, Used with Artificial
I've been using different brands, price points and lengths of rods to tune in what works best for me with 2500 and 3000 size reels, mostly Shimano Stradic Ci4+ and Stradic FK and Diawa Fuego. This rod is so much better at casting than my TFO PSS 764-1, St Croix Mojo Inshore or G Loomis E6x. I was worried about sizing down from 7'6" rods to this 7' rod but it actually casts farther and has other benefits - easier to maneuver around the boat, easier to stow and store and the slightly shorter handle length means I'm not banging the rod base against things like my trolling motor (or my gut). First time out with the new rod I did not want to switch to another rod even though it was rigged with the lure I needed at the time. I already purchased another one. I'll be using the TFO rods as guest setups from now on.
ProsQuality, workmanship, warranty.
ConsPricey, but if package price is an issue, I would rather save money on the reel and spend it on the rod.

Second one broke
First rod broke on a 2 lbs seabass. New one--less than a year old already broke too. The liner fell out of the tip. St croix wants $40 shipping to fix this. I'll fix it myself and never buy another st croix again. This my 5th St croix that broke. I don't think this is made in USA--at least the guides, reel seat and the blank are not.

Great action.
Light action to handle fluke in summer, tough enough backbone to handle large Strippers and Blues. The fast tip gives me that instant warning of what is going on at the end of the line.

Best Medium Weight Rod I Own
This is my favorite rod in its weight I own. There is nothing I don't like about it. It's sensitive and light and I really like the guides it has. I use it for saltwater fluking as well as bass fishing in fresh water. I may be old fashioned but I like just plain cork handles and a lot of rods made now for bass fishing are going to the segmented handles.
ProsLight, nice color and awesome guides

My fav Med hvy rod by far.
It's light, strong, and awesome guides. I have it paired with my Stradic 4000 and 30lb braid. Feel like there's nothin it can't handle. This is my second avid and just don't see the need to go up to legend since these new avoids are fantastic rods for a great value.
ConsCool looking, but color could be cooler

Light and Sensitive
This is one of the lightest and most sensitive rods I've fished. I primarily use it for free lining yellowtails, but it can still handle small tunas and mackerel no problem. I have it paired with a small 3000 Stradic, and this is hands down my favorite combo for inshore and a blast to use for light offshore. With the titanium components, I don't have any worries with corrosion now. Highly recommended!
ProsLight, sensitive, great backbone, titanium components
ConsA little pricey

Very Satisfied
Bought this rod for inshore kayak fishing in south Florida and I am very happy with its performance. It's is super light! And has high quality parts that should last a lifetime. I got the medium action because I find it's much easier to cast from a kayak but it still has enough back bone to handle large snook. (Test already completed). I will buy more.

This God is everything they say it is love the guides love the color love the feel matches up great with my Shimano sustain 5000
ProsGive you a great feel for the bite and when the strike comes and you set the hook its got the backbone to set the hook deep.

would the 8 ft. ml be ok for inshore snook and seatrout or would it be to light?

You would get great action with the St. Croix VIS76MHF Avid Inshore Spinning Rod - 7 ft. 6 in for the application your using the rod for.

Thinking about Pairing the VIS76HF with a diawa BG4500, would that make a good all around inshore combo for striper, and large cobia, maybe even offshore for small tuna and dorado?
1 Answers
This would be a standout inshore combo for stripers and cobia. As for offshore you might be over matched for that style of fishing.

from St. Augustine asked:

How does this stack up against the Shimano Terez?
1 Answers
Both the Avid Inshore and the Terez are fantastic rods, however they are difficult to compare as the are generally seen being used for different applications. The Avid Inshore is an inshore rod, generally used for casting lighter jigs and plugs for species like redfish, snook, and speckled trout. The Terez is a rod generally used in offshore fishing for much heavier applications. The lighter models of the Terez may be used for dolphin or snapper, while the heavier models would be used for tuna fishing.

Which rod model would pair well on a Shimano Stradic 4000 FJ ?
1 Answers
I would suggest any of the 7' to 7'6" models. Which power to select depends on the size of the lures/bait you will be casting. Try and select the rod with a lure weight that falls most within the range of what lures and or sinkers you will be casting with.
