Love this rod!
March 26, 2022
After much research looking for a rod that is best for my small hands, I purchased the St. Croix VIS76HF and I'm so happy I did. The weight balance of the rod plus my Shimano Stella FJ STLC5000XGFJ Spinning Reel is perfect. This is my go-to setup for bay fishing. Note, I wear size 6 gloves, and gripping and holding the rod has given me no hand fatigue.
  • Great rod for women with small hands.
  • Beautiful color!

ML or M for striped bass? 2500 Stradic vs 3000?
1 Answer
Both sizes will certainly get the job done however the 3000 and M power will give you more backbone and control when you get slightly bigger striped bass.

Which model would you recommend to pair with a penn spinfisher vi 4500 with 20 lbs powerpro? Will be fishing mostly around structure for snook and redfish and sometimes on the flats and beaches. Trying to decide between the 7' or 7'6" and M or MH. Thanks!
1 Answer
Both will be suitable. However you will get more versatility with a 7'6 MH because of better casting and heavier lures for beaches and jetties.

Which rod would be better for throwing hogy epoxy jigs 1-1/4oz or light jigs in general around the 1oz range from the beach. The 7'6MF or the 8'0MF?
1 Answer
Hi Ryan, I would recommend the St. Croix VIS80MHF Avid Inshore Spinning Rod. This has the correct lure weight rating of 1/2-2oz and combined with the 8ft length would make it ideal for throwing epoxy jigs off the beach and achieving optimal casting distance. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

76HF is that good for jetty blackfish fishing?use 2-3 oz jig
1 Answer
Hi Delong, The 76HF or scr-1577 would be fine for Jetty Blackfish. Just keep in mind that the casting weight of that rod is up to 2oz so anything heavier on that rod you want to use caution when making your casts or setting the hook. Let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

I just received my Avid inshore 7'6" MHF rod today , it looks awesome.  I was wondering what Penn Slammer to pair it with the 4500 or the 5500 ? Thanks again.
1 Answer

That is a great rod, I would pair it with the Penn Slammer 4500 or 4500HS,  That's depending on what retrieve speed you want based on what your targeting.  I would only go to the 5500 if your targeting larger offshore species and need the line capacity.  Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

November 15, 2020
Would the VIS80HF be good for offshore boat to catch blackfish and possible seabass paired with a VSX150 or is it not suggested?

Are there any other better ST CROIX rod recommendations?

1 Answer
To me it sounds like this rod and reel set up would be extreme overkill for these fish, but this set up would be very versatile if you were to use it for other fishing applications as well.

For blackfish you usually want a lighter more sensitive tip, for this i would recommend the Avid Inshore M or MH rated rods. Paired with a 3000 or 4000 size spinning reel with a good drag such as Daiwa BG MQ or Shimano Stradic FL

I have not personally used them for Blackfish but the Mojo Jig series ive heard great things about for this fishery

Thinking about Pairing the VIS76HF with a diawa BG4500, would that make a good all around inshore combo for striper, and large cobia, maybe even offshore for small tuna and dorado?

This would be a standout inshore combo for stripers and cobia. As for offshore you might be over matched for that style of fishing.

How does this stack up against the Shimano Terez?
1 Answer
Both the Avid Inshore and the Terez are fantastic rods, however they are difficult to compare as the are generally seen being used for different applications. The Avid Inshore is an inshore rod, generally used for casting lighter jigs and plugs for species like redfish, snook, and speckled trout. The Terez is a rod generally used in offshore fishing for much heavier applications. The lighter models of the Terez may be used for dolphin or snapper, while the heavier models would be used for tuna fishing.
